Blood Relations
"Blood Relations”, the written by acclaimed play writer Sharon Pollock, will be performed by the Joliet Drama Guild on April 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22 at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park Theatre, 201 W. Jefferson, Joliet. Performances are at 8 P.M. except Sundays April 15 and 22, which are at 2 P.M. Tickets are $9 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Group discounts are available. Blood Relations is inspired by the Lizzie Borden case and melds elements of Victorian Gothic murder mystery, family melodrama, and a memory play all in one neat package. The playwright uses the unsolved murders of Abigail and Andrew Borden to explore themes of female subjugation and the nature of representation.The play shifts from gritty realism to high theatricality in the blink of an eye as it distorts and refocuses our understanding of this hideous event in a bloodless and thought provoking manner. Blood Relations deals with individual choices and their personal and political implications, and it experiments with structure and style. Directed by Rae Williams of Bolingbrook, this promises to be the can't miss show of the season. “Blood Relations” is the third production of the 2006-2007 season, which began in October with “Arsenic and Old Lace”. The final presentation of the season will be “Guys and Dolls” in July and August.
