The Golden Age Of Radio
"The Golden Age Of Radio”, group of 3 shows originally presented on the radio: The Philadelphia Story, The
Cask Of Amontillado, and Arsenic And Old Lace, and was presented on October 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, & 23, 2005 at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park
Theatre as the 1st play of the 73rd season.
When
the original production for that slot could not be done, quick thinking
and timing came up with a delightful alternative in the form of these
shows being done on the set of an oldtime radio show. The cast
became the performers in the studio as they went "on the air"
live.
"The
Philadelphia Story" is a classic comedy by Phillip Barry. It
centers on a wealthy socialite, Tracy Lord, who is about to married for
the 2nd time. That is until her ex-husband C.K. Dexter Haven
shows up and spoils the plans. Add a couple of reporters and a
less than normal family into the mix for a lot of laughs.
"The
Cask Of Amontillado" is a true horror classic by Edgar Allan Poe.
The Narrator of the story has been over insulted by Fortunato and
vows revenge. The plot to murder Fortunato is to lure him
unsuspectingly to his demise by the offer of a Amontillado wine.
"Arsenic
And Old Lace" is the wonderful comedy that finished this trio of shows.
Written by B.J. George the show focus around Mortimer Brewster
who is visiting his two aunts. Abigail and Martha have a unique
way of helping elderly gentlemen, by offering them a glass of
elderberry wine, with a special addition. Mortimer's brother,
Jonathank, freshly escaped from prison, arrives with his friend Dr.
Einstein. Add a brother who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt, some
dead bodies and the laughs are many.
